Boston Walkathon 2010

Dear Focolare friends,

Each year, we do a fundraiser for Mariapolis Luminosa, the little city of the Focolare Movement in North America. This year, we have decided to do a walkathon. We think it will be a fun way to encourage members of our own community to enjoy a day of recreation while we also reach out to let people know about how much we love Luminosa.

Join us by walking, pledging a walker, or volunteering to help staff the registration table or greet people!

Here’s how it works:
• Download the pledge form and start asking people you know if they can pledge you. Sponsors can pledge either per kilometer or a flat amount for your participation. Even with a difficult economy, relatively small pledges (50 cents or $1 per km) can really add up, especially if each of us gathers a good number of pledges.
• Keep in mind that when you are asking for a pledge, it is also an opportunity to share with others something about the Movement and its goals, and in particular what Luminosa means to us.
• On the day of the event, we will gather at Jamaica Pond in Boston. If you let us know that you’re coming, we can get you a detailed map of where we’ll start and finish.
• We will provide you with a certificate of participation and of the number of kilometers you completed.
• Immediately after the event, promptly collect from all those who promise a pledge the amount promised, and send the money to Bill and Ana Essley. Please don’t send cash in the mail. We hope to have all funds collected by June 12, 2010 so that Luminosa can begin using them immediately.
• If donations from a particular person are above $250, please make sure we have the name and address so that we can send an acknowledgment for their tax records. All donations of any amount are tax-deductible.
